mlb all star game jerseysMADRID, Oct. 17 () -- FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola piled the praise on his players after watching their second half fightback to defeat Valencia 2-1.Barca had fallen behind to the side that kicked the game off as leaders of the BBVA Primera Liga, thanks to a first half goal from Pablo Hernandez. The home side had been off form in the first 45 minutes, but reacted after half time. Andres Iniesta leveled the score before Carles Puyol assured the points with a towering header.Barcelona wasted several chances to score more goals, but in the end the result inflicted the first defeat of the season on Valencia and lifted Guardiola' s side into second place in the table."It is a very important win against an extraordinary rival," said Guardiola in Sunday' s edition of sports paper Diario AS.Guardiola admitted that Valencia had been the better side in the first period, but was delighted that Spain internationals Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez seemed to have recaptured their form."It is the sixteenth consecutive game that Andres has played and his performance is great news, although I don't think Xavi is in condition to play a match every three days," he confessed, in reference to Xavi' s Achilles tendon problems."We can't allow ourselves to fall into the trap of thinking that we win or lose just because of physical issues. Football is all about morale and we have to remember that your rivals also have something to say, when we have recovered our morale, our football will also return. Today the players have taken a step forward and winning this kind of game gives you strength," he concluded.
UNITED NATIONS, May 15 () -- Guatemala on Tuesday called upon the international community to "redouble" the efforts to end terrorism on the Somali soil and off the Somali coast, which is the key to a successful political process in the Horn of Africa country. The statement came as Embajador Gert Rosenthal, the permanent representative of Guatemala to the United Nations, was taking the floor at an open meeting of the UN Security Council on Somalia."To ensure that the political process continues, we must redouble our efforts to end terrorism," he said."Despite the successful military operations of AMISOM, Al- Shabaab is still a threat, attacking innocent Somalis and others," he said.AMISOM is the African Union Mission in Somalia. Al-Shabaab is a radical with Al Qaeda's African offshoot. In February, the UN Security Council called on the African Union (AU) to increase the size of its peacekeeping force in Somalia by almost 50 percent to deal with continued insecurity in the impoverished country. The 15-member body unanimously adopted resolution requesting that AMISOM increase the number of its troops and police officers from 12,000 to a maximum of 17,731, and also decided to both expand the UN's logistical support package to the force and extend it through Oct. 31.Currently, AMISOM's mandate restricts it to operate only in Mogadishu as a peace-keeping force where it is providing security to the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) led by President Sheikh Ahmed Sharif. Uganda and Burundi are the only countries that have contributed troops to the force.Since 2007, AMISOM has been trying to bring peace to Somalia, a country that has had no functioning central government for the past 20 years, during which it has been torn apart by factional fighting and has faced a series of humanitarian crises."Piracy off the coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden continues to pose a serious threat to maritime safety and economic development of countries in the region," he said."We reiterate that piracy is a consequence of the challenges facing Somalia on land," he said. "It is therefore important that the Security Council supports Somalia to address the underlying causes of piracy."
